Serving Iredell County and the greater Lake Norman region since 2022, we've built our reputation on the principles that matter most: honesty, integrity, and unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. When you choose Long View Custom Homes, you're not just hiring a builder—you're partnering with a team that treats your project as if we were building for our own family.
Why Choose Long View Custom Homes
Quarter-Century of Construction Excellence
Owner Chad Holloway has been immersed in residential construction since 1996, beginning his career working summers during high school and college. After graduation, he dedicated himself full-time to the industry, progressing from superintendent to general manager while building custom and semi-custom homes. This extensive experience means we've encountered virtually every challenge that can arise during construction and developed proven solutions.
Our background working with "Build On Your Own Lot" projects from 2003 to 2021 gave us deep expertise in the unique considerations that come with custom homebuilding on privately owned land. We understand soil conditions, site preparation, septic requirements, and the countless details that differentiate building on raw land from constructing in established subdivisions.
In 2022, Chad and his wife Renee founded Long View Custom Homes to bring their vision of transparent, client-focused homebuilding to life. The company name honors Chad's grandfather's dairy farm, reflecting our commitment to hard work, integrity, and building something meaningful that stands the test of time.
Values-Based Building Philosophy
Long View Custom Homes operates on Biblical principles of honesty, integrity, and respect. These core values aren't marketing language—they guide every decision we make and every interaction we have with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
We believe in treating people the way we want to be treated. That means transparent communication about costs, realistic timelines, and honest assessments of what's possible within your budget. It means showing up when we say we will, following through on commitments, and addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
Transparent Cost-Plus Building Model
One of the most significant ways our values manifest is through our cost-plus building model. Unlike traditional fixed-price contracts where builders pad estimates to protect their margins, cost-plus construction provides complete transparency about where every dollar goes.
You pay the actual cost of materials, labor, and subcontractors, plus an agreed-upon percentage or fee for our project management, expertise, and overhead. This means you see real invoices, actual receipts, and detailed documentation of every expense.
The benefits of this approach include:
- Complete budget visibility throughout the entire construction process
- Flexibility for changes and upgrades without complicated contract renegotiations
- Quality focus without pressure to cut corners to protect profit margins
- Direct benefit when we negotiate favorable pricing or complete work efficiently
- Partnership mindset where we're working together toward your goal
Many clients tell us the cost-plus model eliminates the anxiety that often accompanies custom home construction. Instead of wondering what's hidden in a fixed-price bid, you have complete clarity and control.

The Long View Building Process
Phase 1: Planning and Preparation
Initial Interview: Your journey begins with a comprehensive meeting where we explore your vision, discuss your timeline, and understand your budget. If you need assistance selecting a lot, we can refer you to trusted real estate professionals. If you need help with house plans, we can connect you with architects or help you find suitable designs.
Site Visit and Analysis: We'll meet you at the site for a thorough analysis, discussing how your home will be positioned, which trees should be preserved, drainage considerations, and access for construction equipment.
Permits and Approvals: We handle obtaining the septic permit if your lot requires one and manage HOA approval processes if you're building in a neighborhood with a homeowners association.
Preliminary Budget: We gather bids from subcontractors, price materials, and create a comprehensive line-by-line cost breakdown. This budget helps you understand exactly what your home will cost.
Phase 2: Contract and Pre-Construction
Contract and Deposit: After reviewing and agreeing upon the budget, we'll sign the construction agreement. A 10% deposit is required to begin, which is credited to your final invoice.
Pre-Construction Meeting: We conduct a detailed meeting to review plans, discuss locations for mechanical systems, and confirm your understanding of the building schedule. We also submit applications for all required building permits.
Phase 3: Construction
Construction proceeds through seven carefully coordinated phases:
Phase 1 - Site Preparation and Foundation: Includes clearing the lot, digging the basement and footing, forming and pouring the foundation, backfilling and waterproofing, grading the construction driveway, installing underground plumbing, and pouring the basement floor or slab.
Phase 2 - Framing: Installation of the engineered floor system, windows and exterior doors, front door frame, and roofing.
Phase 3 - Mechanical Rough-Ins: Rough-in work for plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fireplace, and insulation installation.
Phase 4 - Drywall, Brick, Siding: Installation of brick veneer, siding, boxing, exterior drain lines, deck and porch footings, sheetrock, and garage door frames.
Phase 5 - Trim: Interior trim, cabinet installation, countertops, hardwood floors, fireplace mantle, interior doors, tile, plumbing fixtures, front door, appliances, stone, and painting begins.
Phase 6 - Mechanical Finals: Installation of electrical outlets, switches, lights, alarm, and HVAC trim out.
Phase 7 - Finals: Final grade, septic system installation if applicable, driveway pouring, shoe mouldings, railings, hardware, shower doors, mirrors, closet shelving, fireplace surrounds, garage doors, carpet, gutters, mailbox, underground utility lines, final cleaning, and landscaping.
Throughout construction, our detailed selection sheets guide you through choosing everything from foundation brick to final hardware. Average build time ranges from 8-15 months depending on complexity and your responsiveness in making selections.
Phase 4: Completion
Final Walk-Through: We conduct a thorough walk-through together, explaining the operation of all systems and demonstrating maintenance procedures. You'll receive documentation including contact information for all suppliers and tradespeople, operation manuals, and warranty information.
Closing: We deliver any remaining documentation and congratulate you on your beautiful new custom home.

Client Testimonials
King Mawhinney shared: "Chad Holloway partnered with me to build my most recent home. This was my third experience building a home and it was absolutely the best. Chad knows his business, is both personable and professional, and all of his suppliers were able to meet my needs in one short visit. Chad helped me balance my budget with my desire for quality. He visited the site regularly, checking on his subs, and kept me abreast in a timely manner. I recommend him wholeheartedly - I trust this man."
Todd and Vick Mills described their experience: "Chad gave us a very detailed quote after several meetings with him and going over exactly what we were looking for in our build. Our house started on time and moved through the building process efficiently. Our house finished in July of 2018, actually earlier than the agreed-upon completion date. During the build, Chad always kept us informed of what was to be expected next and discussed our options to save money and improve our build."
Jeff and Sarah Jackson said: "Chad was the general contractor for our home that we had built in 2019-2020. He is very knowledgeable with his work and easy to approach with questions or concerns. The pandemic did not affect his work ethics or his ability to communicate about changes and/or delays. We would definitely use Chad again if we were to do a new build or a home addition."
